Description
A GUBBIO RUBY LUSTRE PLATE, decorated in grisaille in the centre with a standing figure of Cupid holding a staff within a blue border decorated a candelieri with foliate motifs and vases enriched with green, the reverse of the plate with ruby lustre " C " scrolls a quartieri and in the centre the initial N, Gubbio, circa 1535
Provenance
Munich, loss 1938;
The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
