Description
AN EARLY ARMORIAL DISH with sunk centre and everted rim, the latter with a meandering floral design in cream with orange and green alternate flower-heads on a solid manganese ground within a blue edge, the centre with the Orsini Arms within Gothic leaf age in brilliant blue, green, orange and manganese, enclosed by band and line borders in blue, the back of the dish with an ochre glaze, and foot rim perforated for suspension, Florentine, circa 1470
Provenance
Munich, loss 1938;
The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
